Navigating external chaos without losing your grounding

INSPIRED TUESDAY

A weekly pause for reflection – to inspire and be inspired.

There is a lot of uncertainty in the world right now and it’s easy to get swept up in the turbulence, looking for solid ground in the shifting sands of world events, systems, and structures. If there is a plan, it seems only a few are privy to it.

So how do you stay grounded when everything around you feels unstable?

When I use the word grounding, I am pointing to the steady feeling of inner peace, clarity, and wisdom – or Knowing. It may seem like it comes and goes, but it does not – our thinking and feeling state about it does. Your feelings of chaos and uncertainty are not coming from the outside world; they are created within you. I know this might sound counterintuitive – please bear with me.

Our experience of the world is shaped by our thoughts about the world, not the world itself. How we think about people, events, and situations determines our feelings about them. These two – thoughts and feelings – are inseparable.

When it looks to us like our emotions are caused by external events, we innocently let go of our power. We become reactive rather than responsive. And because we can’t fully control the world around us, we get caught in overthinking, overdoing, and ultimately, stress, anxiety, and exhaustion.

But does that mean we should simply withdraw and do nothing? No. Quite the opposite happens.

When we recognize that our clarity and well-being are innate, we stop acting from fear and start moving from wisdom. We shift from feeling pushed around by circumstances to standing firm in our own Knowing of who we are.

We have access to something deeper than the intellect and the continuous shifting of our thoughts and feelings.

When we lead from that space, our actions carry more impact, our presence becomes steadier, and we move through outer uncertainty with greater ease.

So today, I invite you to pause. Take a breath. Notice where your sense of grounding is coming from. And when you act, do so from that steady, knowing place within you.
